My name is Akilah and I was born to be a healer. When I was a kid, I would say I wanted to be a doctor when I grow up. As I got older, my life experiences continued to refine how I would go about becoming a healer. No matter what alternate paths I've tried to take, all roads have lead me back to my purpose. I am passionate about (w)holistic health and advocating for those who have trouble accessing it.
I have a special interest in women's reproductive health and plan to study medicinal plants as a tool to improve overall womb health.
My Background– I've earned a bachelors in biology, studied uterine fibroids as a research assistant, completed training as Perinatal Community Health Worker and received a certification in the concentration of Perinatal Family Support. I'm a mother, a doula, a family support specialist and (w)holistic health advocate.
My Vision– Everyone has the power to heal themselves and live a life of meaning and purpose. However, many people have difficulty tapping into that power. I see myself as a resource for those ready to take the next step in their health journey and need a little support on the way.
My Philosophy – I choose to spell (w)holistic beginning with a (w) instead of an (h) because, to me, it captures the essence of the state of being whole. Being whole means being in physical, mental, and spiritual alignment. This alignment is necessary in order to experience total health.
Learning how to love yourself wholeheartedly is the first step in acquiring wholeness. If you learn to practice self-care and self-love, you will learn to prioritize your health and will be more aware when things get off balance.
In today's fast paced "insta" society, it can be difficult to consistently practice self-love. Work and life obligations can reduce the amount of time available to practice self-care. When self care is lacking, your quality of life is diminished.
My own personal journey to self-love has been long and a bit arduous at times. It has often required great effort for me to get and stay on track with improving my health and overall well-being.
As I continue on my journey to self-love, my desire is to inspire and teach others to begin their own journey
